I was supposed to order the paint

Alison Myers October 6, 2021

Things that are currently challenging:

  • The daily nail gun/circular saw symphony taking place next door

  • Laundry

  • Feeding people

  • Answering emails

  • Replacing the running (walking… driving?) shoes that are so tread-bare they may as well be ballet shoes

  • Replacing all the pairs of jeans that broke in the butt (yes, there was more than one)

  • Drinking water

  • Reading

  • Writing

  • Being the same person outside of my head as I am on the inside of it

  • Remembering to enforce music practice

  • Remembering to monitor math progress

  • Clearing off the table

  • Group dynamics

  • Anything faster than a walk

  • Reconnection

  • Editing photos

  • Staying off Instagram

  • A sense of completion

  • Getting people to bed on time

  • Getting people to school on time

  • Saying no to clients

  • Saying yes to children

  • Saying no to children in order to say yes to myself

  • Partnering

  • Managing anxieties (beyond my own)

  • Living with spiritual integrity

  • Finding the will to decorate the front porch

  • Locating all the mugs in the house

  • Invoicing

  • Sleep

Things that are currently easy:

  • Hugs

  • Slippers

  • Coffee

  • Walking

  • Listening to podcasts

  • Listening to elementary school thought-downloads at bedtime

  • Knowing there those to whom my existence makes sense

  • Hearing the voices of nature

  • Noticing beauty

  • The air in autumn

In life inklings Tags organization, to do lists, laundry, construction, hugs, marriage, parenting

It always happens without me even realizing it. One moment he’ll be standing there talking to me. The next, he’s settled in on my lap, full of peace and contentment while I try to type around him. Honestly, I can’t say I mind. We ca

Played with some faux macro out in the rain this eve. Still much to learn, but such a fun little trick, especially when you just can’t bring yourself to take another photo of children lost in books on the couch. (Coles notes: flip your lens aro
If I had to characterize the theme of childhood play over the last few months, it would be sticks. So many sticks. ❤️ .

They laugh and explore while I stand on the sidelines, holding inside every cell of my body the knowledge of what’s happening in the world. Knowledge is generous. What I have is akin to the intellectual tool belt a five-year-old wears to school

Don’t be fooled by her adorable smile. She locked me out. Technically, she locked her brother out, I just got caught in the crossfire. 117/366
I had a dream last night that his teacher called to say school was opening again next week. To my surprise, I felt utterly elated. It’s surprising since, to me, I feel like this whole situation still needs time. *
